Step five: egg fertilisation

For a while, your work is done. Back at the IVF lab, your mature eggs are mixed with sperm and allowed to fertilise. The next day, the eggs are checked for signs of fertilisation. These fertilised eggs are called pre-embryos. They will be monitored over the next two days for proper cellular division and quality.

When the embryos reach the proper stage of development, it's time for them to be put into your uterus.
