STEPS IN THE IVF PROCESS Step Six
Steps in the IVF process
Step six: embryo transfer
The embryos are transferred into the uterus during a fairly quick outpatient
procedure. Your doctor will talk with you beforehand about the number of embryos that will be transferred and your plans for any “extra”
embryos.
During the embryo transfer, a catheter is
inserted through the vagina, through the cervix,
and into the uterus. The fertilised eggs are then transferred to the uterus
through this catheter.
After the transfer, many doctors recommend that you rest for the
remainder of the day.
Your doctor will usually prescribe
progesterone after the transfer to support the uterine lining.
Sometimes an additional hCG injection is also given.
