Questions your doctor may ask you

The doctor will thoroughly review your previous medical history as well as a male partner's medical history. The doctor will want to know all the medications and supplements you are both taking. You will both be asked if you have ever had a sexually-transmitted disease, if you drink caffeine, and whether you drink alcohol (and if so, how much).

The doctor will also want to know about any previous fertility tests, any fertility drugs you have taken and your response to those drugs, previous surgeries, and any other gynaecological procedures. Be sure to bring all your medical records with you.

Additionally, the doctor will discuss your monthly menstrual cycle with you, asking specific questions such as:

  • Date of your last menstrual period?
  • Are your cycles regular, occurring every 28 to 30 days?
  • Have you charted your basal body temperature? (if so, bring the results)
  • Have you charted your ovulation with an ovulation predictor tests? (if so, bring the results)
