THE ROLE OF THE REPRODUCTIVE ENDOCRINOLOGIST
The role of the reproductive endocrinologist
An RE has the skills, training, and ability to develop a personalised plan for
those wanting to achieve a pregnancy. Admittedly, no one likes the idea that
they may need the expertise of an infertility specialist. However, seeing a
doctor with advanced training in infertility can mean the difference between
years of trying and a successful pregnancy.
Because IVF is such a technologically advanced procedure, most REs work with a team of IVF support personnel. This team usually includes a
nurse coordinator, an
embryologist, an andrologist,
IVF lab technicians, and a
counselor.
Most REs are not practicing obstetricians. If you get pregnant through IVF, you
will usually be referred back to your obstetrician for obstetrical care. If you
don't already have an obstetrician, feel free to ask your RE for a
recommendation.
