STEPS IN THE IVF CYCLE
Steps in the IVF cycle
You probably already know that IVF is a complex process – a process that few
people know much about. Not knowing what will happen is often unsettling, maybe
even a little intimidating. But if you think of IVF as a series of steps, it
will seem less daunting. This section of the website explains the typical steps
in an IVF cycle.
Keep in mind that not every clinic follows these exact procedures in this
order. This is only a general guideline.
Step One: The teaching session
After talking with the doctor and deciding to go forward with an IVF cycle,
your first step is the teaching session, which may be with the RE or a nurse
coordinator. They will describe the
procedures, create a plan for your IVF cycle, discuss how you will be monitored
throughout the cycle, teach you and your partner how to give shots,
and answer any questions you may have. Consent forms are usually signed at this
time also.
Many clinics also give you the opportunity to meet with a counselor who can provide emotional support
during the process.
